Natural hair care tips

Keeping your hair trim, clean and brushed will ensure healthy growth.  Brush your hair thoroughly prior to washing, always start at the absolute ends of your hair and you’re your time working your way up to the roots and scalp or your head.

Try not to move your hair or tangle it too badly while washing.

The best way to wash your hair is to use a little shampoo, maybe dime size in the palm of your hand, depending on how dirty and how much hair you have but no more than a quarter coin size is necessary.  Take that in your hand and put it under the water, mix it up creating lather over your head.  The more water running over your head the richer your lather will be and the cleaner your hair.

Conditioner believe it or not is really not necessary.  All it does is make your hair easy to comb and really generally does not have any great effect on your hair, other than make it feel nice.  We know we all like to feel nice so here are conditioning tips.

When conditioning treat the cream rinse just as it is, a rinse.  To avoid becoming greasy don’t put the conditioner above your pony tail line; even a little lower is best.  Squeeze the water out of your hair and put about a dime size to quarter size at the tips of your hair and work up your hair not exceeding the pony tail line.  Letting it sit on your hair does not make a difference unless it specifically says so on the bottle.  Rinse out completely.

It is not good for your hair to be brushed while wet, before styling, comb through with a wide tooth comb, starting at the very tips of your hair and working your way up, as you did prior to washing.  Go slow, the more you rush, the more damage you’ll cause.

Trim your hair monthly or have a professional stylist trim your hair, it is best if you are going to go out and have a stylist trim it, to have the same stylist every time.  This way you can get to know your stylist and your stylist can get to know you, she or he can recommend products, give you tips on styling, and learn how you like your hair to be and help you keep it that way.

For longer cuts try to trim yourself, you will save money.  After you have washed and combed your hair, part it down the middle and all the way back.  Bring your parted hair forward on either side.

You’ll need:

1.       Thin toothed comb.

2.       Hair cutting scissors

3.       Two or four hair claws

4.       Patience

After bringing your hair forward slowly part it using the comb from top to bottom cutting each layer as you go along.  Use the claws to keep already cut hair back, you can also use the claws to put up hair that is uncut.  You can go from top layer to bottom or vice versa.  We recommend you start with the bottom layer, bring the layer together looking straight in the mirror and comb them down together under your chin.  Clamp hair in between your middle and pointer fingers and smooth down to where you want to cut, and cut.  Go off this length to trim rest of hair.

Or you can have a friend cut your hair straight across your back.  Always cut hair when wet.

To encourage your hair to curl under trim the bottom layer slightly shorter progressively to the longest and top layer or hair.  Cut very little in each layer.

Once you are done trimming your hair, comb your hair into your style and look at it from all angles in the mirror, if there is something totally wrong, you can either try to fix it or visit a professional.

With a long cut it is very simple to trim your own hair.  Trimming monthly will keep your hair growing fast and strong.

There is also a nice and easy way to get the sides even.  With a comb, part the hair around the middle top of your head.  About two inches above ears and back all the way to the crown of your head.  Out of this portion of the hair, starting at the front and working your way back, take small sections and lift up into the air above your head to cut even across, work your way back until all of this section is complete.

Brush your hair often and from the bottom up, keep your hair clean.
